A Beginner’s Guide to Vape Supplies

By the end of 2023, experts expect worldwide vaping supplies to be a whopping $40 billion market.

The US is one of the three largest markets for vaping products. At least 9% of US adults state they vape “regularly or occasionally.”

So, if you’re new to vaping, you’ll soon find yourself in a group that consists of millions! With that said, you probably want to get your vape supplies together now so you don’t look like a newbie at the next party you attend.

We’ve got you.

Keep reading to learn the basic vape supplies every beginner needs to get started.

A Vape Device

Vaping devices aren’t one-size-fits-all. This stage can be a little overwhelming, as there are several options available.

The best way to narrow down your choices is to consider the type of vaper you intend to be. Airflow design—which indicates the amount of airflow running through the vape—correlates with your style.

Mouth-to-lung (MTL) airflow is comparable to smoking a cigarette. It’s got a tight airflow and low power output. Vapers inhale the vapor into their mouths first, then their lungs.

Direct-to-lung (DTL) produces a much larger volume of vapor and its higher power sends the vapor right into the lungs. This experience produces a more intense flavor.

Some people choose pre-filled pens, which are simple to use and lend themselves more to the MTL vapor. DTL vapors might opt for a larger tank that lets them control the power with which the air flows through.

Let yourself experiment. For example, Smok vape mods offer simple, pre-filled pens with replacement pods and larger units that are rechargeable. If you’re still not sure, try a couple of different options and see which one suits you best.

Vape Juice, or E-Liquid

Vape juice is slightly less complicated than picking out your device, but still deserves some consideration.

When picking out your e-liquid, there are three things to keep in mind: flavor, nicotine levels, and the PG to VG ratio.

Choosing a flavor is pretty straightforward. Vape juice comes in a huge variety—everything from watermelon, mango, and grape, to pizza (yes, really), cake, and wine are on the table. But there are also more neutral flavors, such as those that mimic tobacco.

As far as nicotine levels go, that’s a personal preference, too.

Some people begin vaping as a way to quit cigarettes and may want to start with a high volume (considered 18mg to 36mg). For a happy medium, try strengths of 9mg to 16mg. And if you’d prefer to keep it on the low side, look for anything that’s 6mg and below.

PG and VG, which stand for propylene glycol and vegetable glycerol, are the main base solutions in e-liquid. PG is the flavor provider, rather than the vapor provider. VG is more vicious, producing large clouds of vapor, but tends to mute flavors.

Therefore, finding the right PG to VG ratio is important. One of the most common ratios is 40:60. You can also get pure PG or pure VG.

It all depends on your wants and needs.
